Mac Miller Collabs With DJ Jazzy Jeff On New Album

Freshman Mac Miller has recruited legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff to work with him on his up coming album. The Pittsburg MC says he is trying to exposed new hip hop fans to pioneers such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and DJ Premier. I think Mac is doing a great thing by exposing newer hip hop fans to the men that helped make hip hop what it is today!
Newly-minted XXL Freshman class member Mac Miller has announced that he’s collaborating with former Will Smith comrade DJ Jazzy Jeff on a new record. The Pittsburgh-based MC revealed initial details of the full-length project during a red carpet interview at the mtvU Woodie Awards in Austin, Teas on Wednesday (March 16).
“I haven’t told anybody yet, but me and Jazzy Jeff are about to do a project,” he claimed. “Straight hip-hop stuff that’ll be coming out in the summer. We’re trying to get as many pioneers in hip-hop involved. I’m excited because of this younger generation. I want to give them that. I want them to know who Jazzy Jeff is, who DJ Premier is.”
While one wouldn’t assume that informing the public of DJ Premier should be the responsibility of Mac Miller, the idea of a full LP pairing a new talent with some of hip-hop’s original innovators does seem like a novel concept in this case. Both the MC and DJ Jazzy Jeff share a Pennsylvania connection, with Jazzy Jeff residing in Philadelphia.
Mac could also open Jazz up to a whole new core audience of college-age fans. His lyrics, which often reference partying, smoking weed and girls, have grown organically with fans in a similar manner as fellow Pittsburgh resident Wiz Khalifa.
