After a spring training in the segregated South, newlywed Rachel Robinson went to look at an apartment in a white neighborhood in Montreal. A French-Canadian woman who spoke English welcomed her to the home.
”She received me so pleasantly,” Jackie Robinson’s widow recalled. ”Then she poured tea for me and agreed to rent the apartment to me furnished and she insisted I use her things — like her linens and her china. It was an extraordinary welcome to Canada.”

The 2011 XXL Freshmen
Due to eighty8clothing leaking out their cover a month early today, XXL had to go ahead and reveal their picks for the annual Freshmen line-up which features Big K.R.I.T., CyHi Da Prynce, Diggy Simmons, Fred Da Godson, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Twist, Mac Miller, Meek Mill,Yelawolf, and YG.
Like everyone else, I have my own opinion of who should have been on there and who shouldn’t have but keep in mind that this is merely XXL’s opinion as well so judge lightly.

Anti-Abortion Billboard in NYC Considered Racist
Did this billboard take it a little bit too far?? “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.” Rev. Stephen Broden, of anti-abortion group Life Always, doesn’t seem to think so. This ad was placed in the heart of Soho with an attempt to bash Planned Parenthood for targeting abortions among minorities. What are your thoughts? Is it a racist sign or does it do its job?? Check another one of their billboards.

Nicki Minaj Says Her Appeal Lies In Showing It’s “Ok To Be Weird”
That’s one thing I love about Nicki…she really has allowed for girls and guys all over the world to open up and be who they are. Before Nicki and Twitter people were afraid to open up and be who they were because they were afraid of being scrutinized. I really think HB gave young kids that had low self-esteem a reason to feel they were beautiful and allowed them to feel as if they were Barbie or Ken, no matter if they were a size 2 or size 20.
The Young Money MC says she’s learning that she has to censor herself and that not all of her followers are fans.
“I have to watch my mouth sometimes,” she tells BlackBook magazine in a new interview.
